About The Games

The University of Phoenix Lori Piestewa National Native Games is the largest competitions of its kind. Each year more than 3,865 athletes and approximately 17,200 spectators come to Maricopa County to compete in the menu of six different sports. The Lori Piestewa National Native Games consist of 94 tribes, 157 cities, 22 states and 3 countries.

Pfc. Lori Piestewa

Lori Piestewa was a U.S. Army Quartermaster Corps soldier who was killed in 2003 during an Iraqi Army attack. Piestewa, a Hopi, was the first Native American woman in U.S. history to die in combat while serving in the military.
